Shari'a Board

Dr. Hussain Hamid Hassan is a Sharia advisor of very strong and highly respected standing. He is currently President of the Fatwa and Sharia Supervision Board of National Bonds and on the Boards of many Islamic Banks and financial institutions. He holds several degrees, including a PhD in the Faculty of Sharia from Al Azhar University, Master of Comparative Jurisprudence and Diploma in the Comparative Law from the University of New York. Dr. Hussain has been Professor of Sharia and Comparative Law at Cairo University and is the author of 21 books & many articles on Islamic law, Islamic Finance and Islamic economics.

Dr. Hussain’s credentials include:

  • Former Islamic educational advisor to the President of Pakistan and President of Islamabad International Islamic University.
  • Legal advisor to the President of Kazakhstan.
  • Former economic advisor to the Government of Kyrgyzstan.
  • Advisor to the World Islamic League, Jeddah.
  • Current President of the Fatwa and Sharia Supervision Boards in the following Islamic Banks and financial institutions.
  • Dubai Islamic Bank (Dubai), Sharjah Islamic Bank (Sharjah), Emirates Islamic Bank (Dubai), Mashreqbank (Dubai), First Gulf Bank (Abu Dhabi), Al Salam Bank (Sudan), Liquidity Management Centre (Bahrain), Dubai Islamic Insurance Company AMAN (Dubai), Amlak Finance Company (Dubai), Tamweel Finance (Dubai), Emirates Sudan Bank (ESB), Bank of Khartoom (Sudan).

Mr. Muhammad Qaseem

Served as Shari’a Analyst in the Shari’a Structuring and Coordination Department with Emirates Islamic Bank and holds a Ph.D in Tafseer and Qur’anic Sciences from the Faculty of Usul ud Din, Islamabad.

He also holds degrees in Tafseer & Hadith and was the Special Assistant to the President of IIUI, Dr. Husain Hamid Hassan, for ten years contributing to academic topics on Islamic finance.

He has contributed to Islamic Banking: Points to Ponder, and translated, under the aegis of IIUI, a sizable part of the verdict of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, banning Riba as well as many other significant curriculum based articles.

He also has 18 years teaching experience in B.A and M.A programmes of International Islamic University Islamabad. He has recently joined DIB Pakistan as the Country Head of Sharia Affairs, directly reporting to the bank’s Sharia Board.

Dr Ajeel Jasim al Nashmy

Dr. Ajeel is currently a Professor at Kuwait University where he works in the Faculty of Shari’a and Islamic Studies. Having completed his academic career at Al Azahr University and Kuwait University he achieved a PHD in Islamic Fiqh from Al Azahr.

He has published in excess of 7 books and 15 papers on contemporary matters relating to Islamic Shari’a issues.

Amongst his remits he is currently:

  • President of the International Committee for Al Zakat Modern Issues.
  • Member of the Shari’a Standards Committee, Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions.
  • Member of Fatwa and Shari’a Board for Ministry of Awkaf and Islamic Affairs in Kuwait.
  • Member of the International Islamic Fiqh Academy and representative for Kuwait Member of the European Council for Efta’ Research, Dublin, Ireland.
  • Member of the Shari’a Board for the European Research Faculty of Human Studies, France.
  • Member of Shari’a Supervisory Board, Financing Institution Kuwait.
  • Member of several Fatwa and Shari’a Supervisory Boards in the following Islamic Banks and financial institutions;
  • Sharjah Islamic Bank, Liquidity Management Centre Bahrain, Aayan, The Home of Khaleejie Investment, Dar Al Istithmar.
